Mastitis Prevention Programme

Mastitis is caused by Streptococci and coliform bacteria. Mastitis is having economical importance, as the milk of infected cattle is harmful to the human being so it is discarded during disease. Godrej Agrovet Ltd. Offers a diagnostic kit to detect mastitis in cattle.

California Mastitis Test (C.M.T.)

This kit consists of a plastic paddle plus the necessary reagents. 2ml of reagent and 5 ml of milk are mixed in the plastic paddle by a swirling motion. Negative samples are free from gel formation, positive samples show various degree of gelling (Precipitation) which is a reflection of the degree of udder inflammation. This C.M.T. is used to estimate the somatic cell count from each teat.

-Check the milking procedure, it should be done quickly, gently, cleanly, completely, safely and hygienically.

-Recommended hygienic system includes
§  Initially milk out 1-2 stream of milk
§  Wash teats in clean and sanitized water with G-Mex.
§  Spray teats at the end of milking with G-ex solution.
§  Milkers should disinfects their hands with Dermisept (hand disinfectant) while going from cow to cow.
§  Detect infected cows by repeat CMT
§  Control teat cracks, Teat injuries from milkers nails.
§  Consult your veterinary doctor for the treatment of infected teat.
